Yellow Wind Warnings and Expected Impacts

In anticipation of the severe weather, the Met Office has implemented a yellow wind warning scheduled to remain active from midnight until noon on Friday. The advisory specifically encompasses south Wales, south-west England, and the southern coastal counties of England. Forecasters project that wind gusts inside this zone could reach up to 70 miles per hour, creating a substantial probability of structural damage to properties, localized power failures, and disruptions across transportation networks. Surrounding areas across west Wales and the remainder of southern England will experience more generalized gusts measuring between 50 and 60 miles per hour.

Regional Variations and Weekend Outlook

While the most intense gales are expected to ease from the south-west by Friday morning, persistent blustery conditions and intermittent heavy downpours will affect England and Wales throughout the day. Geographically, Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to largely evade the disruptive effects of Storm Austen as the system tracks toward the North Sea late Friday. Nevertheless, a separate area of low pressure is anticipated to arrive by the start of the weekend, bringing strong winds and rain to Scotland on Saturday before conditions trend drier by Sunday.
